Last night was my 9-year old nephew's first concert experience. Thanks to his parents' good taste, he has grown up loving Springsteen and U2. So, it was my pleasure to bring him to the show. His dad came with, and let me tell you, the guy just about lost it when "Origin of the Species" was played - he just looked at me and said, "Yeah, a dad wrote that." It was his first U2 show as well. That, in and of itself, was worth it last night.

While I became a U2 fan with "The Unforgettable Fire" and am not as well-versed with some of the earlier tracks, I have to say that hearing them play Electric Co., Into The Heart, etc. just really proved to the world that these guys had it right from Day One. They poured their heart and soul into last night's show, in my opinion. They just looked like they were having a good time up there. When Bono walked over to Adam and planted a kiss on his cheek, what we were watching were four friends who had as much fun playing onstage at the United Center as they did playing in Larry's kitchen so many years ago.

Sure, I wasn't thrilled that, for the sacrifice of hearing "40" live they replayed the Party Girl thing and Vertigo (although the second one was WAY better than at the beginning of the show), all for the sake of the DVD taping. And I feel there were peaks (the first three songs) and valleys (the Miracle Drug bathroom break).

But when I go to a U2 show, if the band is having fun, then I'm having fun. Their energy last night (and I do think Bono's voice was better than on the Elevation tour, to be honest). I was happy to be there.
