Bono brings a fan named Jessica on stage during "Mysterious Ways," and she proceeds to wow the band and crowd with her terrific belly dancing skills. After the song, she tells Bono that she was on stage with them 10 years ago when U2 played this same arena during the Vertigo tour. Jessica stays on stage and does the Meerkat video segment during "Elevation."
As the piano rises on the E-stage for "Every Breaking Wave," Bono starts talking to a couple fans in the front row -- it's the members of the U2 tribute band Acrobat -- and Bono invites them all on stage together. He tells the rest of the real U2 that these guys want to play "Desire." Adam and Larry exit the stage and watch from floor level right next to the E-stage. Real Bono sings with Acrobat's Bono, while real Edge plays guitar with Acrobat's Edge. The bassist in Acrobat just happens to be Mark Baker, who was brought on stage a month ago at the first Montreal concert, and whose parents are seeing their first U2 show tonight. It's a magical, impromptu moment that wasn't part of the printed setlist.
Bono sings a long snippet of "Moment Of Surrender" on the end of "Bad," and the entire band plays a shortened version of "Stand By Me" tagged onto the end of "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." At 25 songs, tonight ties the first show in Phoenix for the most songs performed in a single show this tour. Coincidentally, both shows include unplanned songs involving the band playing with a fan(s) on the E-stage.
