U2 makes its first appearance at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee. Although many media outlets report that it's U2's first festival in the U.S. since the US Festival in 1983, that's not quite true. They headlined the iHeartRadio Music Festival just last year in Las Vegas, and also played the Tibetan Freedom Concert in 1997 in New York City.

Even though the screen and stage tonight are much smaller than on the tour proper, fans get as close an experience as possible to a normal Joshua Tree Tour show. The same videos accompany each song, and the set is reminiscent of previous shows on the regular tour, albeit a couple songs shorter.

As headliners, U2 has a late slot -- they're scheduled to go on at 11:00 PM local time. Several hours before the show, the festival announces that U2's slot has been extended from 90 minutes to two hours. U2 takes the stage at about 11:05 PM to "Whole Of The Moon" by The Waterboys, a change of pace from the normal entry song during the current tour -- "Rainy Night In Soho" by The Pogues.

Before "I Still Haven't Found," Bono finally introduces the band: "We're a boy band from the north side of Dublin. Thank you for welcoming us to the rolling hills of Tennessee!"

"One Tree Hill" is dedicated to Lily Cornell, Chris Cornell's daughter. "Her dad had an epic heart," Bono says as the song begins. "Vertigo" makes its first appearance of the tour, being played in a festival crowd-friendly encore.

In between sets, Bono delivers the obvious one-liner, when he tells the audience, "What an extraordinary thing Bonnaroo is! Thank you for naming it after me.”
