U2 Concert Review: Charlottesville, VA

Date: October 01, 2009
Venue: Scott Stadium

Review by: Eric M

7th U2 show (4 Elevation, 2 Vertigo, 1 360) and 1st outdoor show - overall fantastic as always with a few differences from the indoor dates - first and foremost, soundcheck isn't a secret like in arenas! - also, the sound and crowd noise is a bit different...there's more of it but it isn't as confined - finally, pretty sure "the Claw" would poke a pretty big hole in an arena roof!

things I noticed : Bono's vocals were strong (at some past show he didn't even attempt falsetto on "One" or "With or Without You"), overall sound was awesome, loud but clear as a bell...the fan who tried to climb up on the bridge behind Adam who was promptly shoved falling back to the ground by security...Edge's guitars sounded great start to finish, no technical problems at all and I don't think he missed a single note all night...set list seems to be a bit longer than past tours (played over 2:15 straight)

highlights : first glimpse of "The Claw" at 7:30AM (OMG have to see it to believe it!)...out of NOWHERE in the middle of the afternoon hearing "City of Blinding Lights" blaring thru the empty stadium at sound check...Edge's falsetto solo at the end of "Stuck in a Moment" w/ Bono proudly cheering him on...live versions of "Breathe", "Vertigo", and "Get on Your Boots" so much better than recorded versions...first time live "Unforgettable Fire" and "Ultraviolet"

finally, kudos to the security staff at Scott Stadium, by far the friendliest and most effective I've seen - they kept the sometimes stressful experience of GA to a minimum by being organized, prepared, but at the same time calm and very friendly
