This was my 2nd U2 concert (first was Zoo TV at the Montreal Forum). I really enjoyed it, and everyone around me was singing and dancing almost the whole time. Some people in my section did sit down during some of the quieter songs, but I don't see the problem with this. Listening to a "One" doesn't make me want to stand up and scream and pump my arms in the air. I actually wanted to listen to the concert at some points, and I can't if I'm yelling and singing along (though I did plenty of that too).
I'm wondering if anyone else was suspicous of that young boy who was pulled on stage? I had clear view of the ellipse entrance, and that boy and his family left right after that song. What's up with that? You get pulled on stage with U2 and then you go home? I kept an eye out for them and never saw them return. It breaks my heart to think U2 planted some kid there as a prop for Bono. They have a great message without resorting to fakery.
I loved the show, but didn't think it had the energy of the Zoo TV tour. I didn't miss Bono as "The Fly", but I did think he had more energy back in those days. There were a few great sparks last night, like when he pounded away on that drum out on the loop, or when he introduced Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own with that anecdote about his father and then took off his glasses. But overall, I thought Bono and the rest of the band could have had a bit more energy.
