Going into this show I had read that the previous night's audience was flat. That was confirmed when KOL's lead singer said "I'm here to tell you right now that you're a much better crowd than last night's." WOW - I thought that was pretty honest and forthright. But I'm glad he acknowledged that because I knew we'd be in for a awesome show. By the way, KOL rocked but I think they made everyone deaf, cause the noise was too much.
I'm never disappointed with U2, no matter what. The entire show rocked from beginning to finish. I had been looking forward to Zoo Station as that one is my all time favorites, but Bono pulled "Species" out of the back pocket, and that choice was worth it. Is it me, or was Bono yelling "Steve Jobs" during "Vertigo?" If he was, that is hilarious - I half-expected iPods to start flying into the crowd!
I found it strange that the band did not make as many trips around the ellipse as I expected; I don't think that had anything to do with the crowd's rowdiness though.
There were many beautiful moments, but I have to say that the best piece of eye candy was Iris grinding to the music with Bono during "Mysterious Ways."
Emotionally speaking, the older stuff from Boy was great, and I don't think that held back the crowd at all. With "40" as a closer, that brought it home for me. And since I'm a drummer, I have to say that Larry ROCKS and it was a thrill to watch him as close as we were.
Can't wait for November!
