Saturday afternoon/evening seems like an odd time to announce pretty big news ... until you realize that public ticket sales begin Monday for all of the U.S. shows happening in September.

Ergo, news hit today that Beck will be U2's opening act for the upcoming U.S. shows. (And presumably for any additional U.S. shows that might be announced.) The band previously announced that Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds will open the shows in Mexico and South America.
