U2 Tours (formerly part of AtU2): A Comprehensive Guide To U2’s Live Performance History

by Duane

Left work early, drove in traffic for an hour and a half and stuffed 3 cheeseburgers down my throat before jumping into line. Finally the day had come.

U2, though not at their finest, did put on a powerful and emotional show. There truly are no better performers in this era of rock music.

I was standing about 10 feet from the tip of the heart, and had been standing there for about two hours. The pain shooting up my legs and back disapeared as soon as they hit the stage. I have never seen a crowd react like this one did as the band strolled up. The adrenilane rush was on!

Here are some highlights:

Elevation: In the middle part, Bono says "happy birthday Bob Dylan", and ad libed Mr. Tambourine Man over the end of the song.

BD: at the end, Bono sings "my baby is beatiful!"

NY: Very powerful live, much more enjoyable than the album

SBS: At the end, Bono tells the story of shaking the hand of an IRA member. Did not here who it was

IALW: Bono's voice gives out. As that high oooohhhh hhoooo part comes, Bono nods at the Edge and mouths "you do it". Edge sings it, and Bono says at the end "no more singing like a girl"

One: Before the song, Bono thanks Finance Minister Paul Martin for his assistance in Jubilee 2000, and his forgivness of Africa's debt

The lighting effects were very good, but hard to see from the floor. Small price to pay to see the sweat dripping off their faces and to make eye contact with them. It was a beautiful moment in time
