Well, not sure what more I can say that hasn't already been said on prior reviews. After thinking Dallas in November 2005 would be my last Vertigo stop, the re-scheduling of this show from April to December allowed me to replenish the funds after 7 shows to make it a great 8!
I won't describe the show as all of the details were very well told in previous posts. I will say that the experience overall rivaled among the best U2 events (they are not concerts, they are true events) I have been to in my life. Seeing how the U2 army from literally around the world converged on Honolulu was just fantastic. This, more than any of the previous 21 shows I've seen going back to Zoo TV, included the truest of die hard followers who truly 'get it'.
From my view point, no drunks, very little Maui Wowi and no fights. I did not see the typical mass exit to the bathroom or for beer during slower numbers such as For the First Time or Miss Sarajevo. Very few folks blabbing on their cell phones. It was simply a great crowd, in a great venue taking in one last Vertigo show together under breezy Hawaiian skies. Sprinkle in the greatness of Pearl Jam, the incredible opportunity given Rocco & the Devils, and the Billy Joe cameo and it was truly an epic night.
I'm sure thousands joined me during the scrolling of the prior 130 Vertigo show venues during Wake Up, with big smiles when they saw each show they attended pass by. What a way to kick things off.
Not sure if I will get the opportunity again to see the final show of a tour or to be fortunate enough to have seen at least 1 show from every leg...but either way, sharing Vertigo 131 in Honolulu with 47,000 card carrying members will not soon be forgotten.
Regards,
Phil
