Don't let the other reviews fool you, this was a GREAT show!! Expectations were a little high I think because it was the final U.S date. Way too many signs in the crowd saying "dance with me," "sing with me," let me play your guitar," let me HAVE your guitar," etc. We wanted a special show and U2 delivered, no doubt about it.
I drove straight from the Tampa show, arrived at 3:30am, and was 90th in line. I was on the front rail in the heart on Edge's side. Bono really lit it up at the end of Beautiful Day and I knew then that this would be a memorable show.
Besides kissing several girls along the heart Bono also danced with a girl on the main stage (during Bad I think). I was proud of Bono for pulling the guy on stage with the One tattoos on his back. They embraced for a long time and Bono thanked him over and over. No other frontman on this level gives as much of himself to his fans.
I was really impressed by Knockin' On Heaven's Door and the kid who joined them on it. I never realized how great their version is. And the kid, who sang a bit too, was rock solid. He had long hair and was kind of scruffy so Bono called him Jesus a few times. "Loved your early work" he said.
The acoustic In God's Country was a real treat I must say. Bono and Edge sharing a mic at the tip of the heart singing some sweet, western style harmonies. Priceless.
The Wild Horses at the end of Bad has been coming off great the last few shows. A real crowd pleaser. The longer they do it the more I love it.
Around Pride or so Bono motioned to Dallas to turn up Edge's guitar. He did and, to use a rock cliche, it blew the roof off the place. Edge's guitar solo during Bullet was as vicious as I've ever heard it. Probably the most intense song of the show these days.
All in all a brilliant, enthusiastic, joyous show that I'll never forget. It's been over for sixteen hours now and I'm still singing Walk On in my head (Halleh-Halleh! Halleh-Halleh Loo-Ooh Yah!). It was my 7th show this tour and 15th since 1987. I've met a lot of great people in the GA lines and have made some lifelong friends. I'll see you all again in 2003!!!
