As much as I hate to admit this to myself, last night was completely disappointing. I went to 6 Southern California shows last tour, and I would have much rather seen a 7th last night compared to what happened.
Not only were they out of tune with each other at certain points, but all throughout they felt even more out of tune with the audience. Case in point, if they thought returning after "give us a few minutes" was their encoure, then they should have been there to witness thousands of long-time, fans in shock and disbelief at their unwillingness to return to the stage. Those of us who are lucky enough to see them more than once this tour may end up getting their money and heart's worth, but others who were only able to see last night's show really missed out.
There were certainly strong moments, "Where The Streets Have No Name," and the great surprise of "Running to Stand Still," but the band just looked like they were rushing off stage and not making the connection with the audience.
Also disappointing, Bono never even introduced the band? Never really spoke to the audience other than when talking about Africa? No "Original of the Species????" (Crossing my fingers for Staples)
