Having seen the Zoo TV and Popmart tours, it was wonderful to see both a stripped down set and a smaller area. The stage held quite a few surprises which was great and showed that, although thy understand restraint, they also still know how to "wow" a crowd.
From a setlist point of view I couldn't have asked for much more. I think that the new songs blend in so much more seamlessly than anything from Zooropa or Pop. I am very glad that they stayed away from these albums (with the acceptable exception of Stay) and focused on what Bono called, "A rock show".
Personal highlights: 1) Bono sprinting around the track (you wouldn't do that unless you were really sincere about being happy)...notice how he came to a stop and imediately started singing...guy's in pretty good shape, yet! 2) Sunday Bloody Sunday (will there ever be a better concert song?
Only complaints: 1) They seemed to cut many of Edge's solos short in order to squeeze more songs into the set (I'm sure I'd complain the other way around if they only played 8 longs songs!) 2) The concert seemed too fast (see #1) which didn't leave me with the "they gave me everything I could have possible asked for and more" feeling that I had at the first Zoo TV show. One more encore would have done it. (I do thank them, however, for not dragging out the time between encores)
All-in-all I think it was the best U2 concert experience of my life. I felt connected, entertained and moved all at the same time. Good job guys!
