Having followed the tour so far via this and other web sites, I thought I knew what to expect. I was way off. This show far exceeded anything I read or imagined. It was part rock show, part celebration, and part religious experience.
I saw them from the nosebleeds at Dodger Stadium in '92, from the back of the floor at the Coliseum in '97, and from 15 feet away last night. I never want to be further away than that again. Standing this close led the highlight for me of hearing The Edge sing backup for 'Stay', even when Bono's mic wasn't picking him up.
Other high points for me were Bono's nod to Radiohead, his unabashed acknowledgement of God, and his "roots in poverty" speech preceding 'One', which gave the song an even greater power and urgency. Bono also framed 'Stuck In A Moment' and 'In A Little While' into context, and they brought tears to my eyes.
I can't complain about stupid things like acoustics or a few people in the crowd, because those things were so overpowered by the emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual elevation that I experienced.
