Well I think the KC show was a great performance...the band seemed very energetic and into the show.
Before the show me and about 15 other people met Bono and Adam. Right before the soundcheck we saw Bono on his golfcart. Someone asked him if he would stop and talk to us...He said that he was running late for the soundcheck; but that he would talk to us right after. We all waited; and as he promised; he stopped and talked to us. It was nice because it was just a small group of people around. I got up by Bono first; and I got his autograph...I asked him several questions...I asked him what religion he was; being Irish Catholic...He said that it was a touchy subject; but that he was a Christian. I asked him if he was into Astrology; he said no. I asked him how he liked KC; and he said that KC was a great place. I asked him if he was going to play Vegas, like Elvis, in 15 to 20 years; and he said "If I eat a lot of cheeseburgers." I asked him if he would play "Love Comes Tumbling" as an encore; and he said that he probably forgot the lyrics (they have never played that song live; by the way.....).I asked him if he was going to play "Do You Feel Loved" (because I heard that they dropped it after a bad Dallas performance of that song...) He said..."You were there?" ( I think he thought I was at the Dallas show.) Someone else asked a question; so he didn't elaborate. I asked him if he went to the Nelson Art Gallery again this time...and he said that he tried to go there this morning; but they were closed.
I asked Adam how he liked KC...and he said he likes it a lot; and that they will be seeing a lot more of KC in the near future....(at the time, I did not know they were filming a video in KC for "Last Night On Earth).
Reverend Tim asked Bono if he could videotape Bono for about 5 seconds...for his daughter (who loves "Staring At the Sun")...Bono said no, that he does not do requests.
Paul McGuinness also came over for autographs. I asked him if the band would stay on Island when their contract expires; and he said that Island is a great label... (insinuating that they would stay on Island.) Many people got autographs...it was so funny, though...as soon as he and Adam came over to us; it was complete silence! No one said anything; so I thought I would ask some questions.
That was Monday, May 19th. They were in town 4 days shooting the video. Someone said that they decided to film in KC because they were attracted by the futuristic-looking spires on top of Bartle Hall (which fit the theme for their futuristic video). I saw the filming on Wed. the 21st. It was REALLY neat. There were a lot of people around watching. They blocked off major highways and streets to film. Some themes of the video: There was a big army tank with soldiers in it. They drove through the street, and the tank ran over lemons from an over-turned truck. A bimbo-looking hussie (Hussie is my friend Ryan's word)...amazon-looking with bleached-blonde hair, jumped up into the back of the army tank; and the soldiers all cheered. (For those of you who don't know; the video as about an air-born virus that kills a city; (KC)
Anyway...The Fab 4 were in this old red convertible that came screeching through the streets...and smashing through a store-front window. After the shoot; several people picked up lemons as souvenirs. Larry came over to sign autographs. I got his autograph; and asked him if they were going to release a live album on this tour; and he said "...Probably not..." I told him that if they would; it would cut down on bootlegs. He laughed and said that he would rather see it on a bootleg! I asked Bono the same question... (In between shoots, people would rush the band for autographs)...I think Bono said something like ..."That's a good idea..."...I said "How about the KC show? That was a good show." ...Someone else asked him a question; though. Me and this nice guy Kevin waited at the trailers when Paul McGuiness came down. I asked him the same thing about a live album; and he said that they haven't thought about that; but that it might be a good idea...
Well; this is pretty long!!.... But, I am glad that U2 decided to shoot the video to "Last Night On Earth" here in KC!!!
