I remember this show as being a huge deal. After all it was the 3rd leg of the tour & the 2nd time back in the states for the J. Tree. Assemby Hall had a great rep for getting quality acts to play. Tonight was no exception. I remember this huge buzz about the band & the show that night. I can't remember the opening act but remember someone being pulled out from the crowd to play guitar along with People get Ready. For some 22 yr old kid I'm sure a memory he'll have for a long time. The show was full of energy, & it was hard at times to hear what Bono was saying between songs. The really cool footnote to this show was that after teh gig the band put on druid costumes & brought a pizza to sority house on campus. The article in the paper the next day said that at first the girl who answered the door thought it was a prank, then Bono lowered his hood & there they were. They shared pizza & Bono played Hey Jude on the piano & sang Hey Edge don't let me down. I'll search the U of I archives to see if I can find that article & get it posted.
