This was my third Elevation show, and my fourth U2 show overall. The show has changed a lot since the first and second legs, and changed even more tonight in Baltimore. This was by far the smallest venue I've ever seen U2 play in, but that did not stop them from putting on a BIG performance. Ali's father was in the audience tonight, and this show was the band's first since the 9/11 attacks in either the NY or DC areas. The shown started with a lot of energy with Elevation, BD, UTEOTW, and NYD. After that, the show took on more of a cathartic, emotional feel than a big, flashy rock feel that we've seen on other shows. Gone from the setlist were songs like The Fly, Bad, Mysterious Ways, and WOWY. But in their place were ISHFWILF, What's Going On, and the special treat: Please. This was the first time Please has been played since PopMart. While they still have a few kinks to work out, this song (one of my favorites) was incredibly moving. Also moving for me was the acoustic version of Staring At The Sun. For the first time, I feel like I really understand the song. Bono kept repeating "happy to go blind." Very powerful. Well, get out and go to a show if you can afford it! We are very fortunate that U2 has decided to engage in this third leg of the elevation tour, and I am thankful I got to see this show in Baltimore. Walk On.
