U2 -BBC, LONDON-27th February 2009

Yesterday I had the chance of a lifetime to go and see U2 at the BBC theatre in London, a very kind hearted soul offered for me to be his plus one. The venue held just over 300 people and right up until the moment that I was stood in the venue waiting for the band to come on, I was really nervous that someone or something was going to take this opportunity away from me, however this was not the case, we were ushered in to the venue and the sight of Stuart Morgan(Adam Bass Roadie) and Dallas Schoo(Edge Guitar Roadie) making the finishing touches to the bands equipment confirmed to me the fact that U2 were really here and I was going to witness their smallest gig that they have played for many many years. Jo Willey came out and introduced U2 and the boys just strolled on to the stage, 1st Larry, then The Edge and Bono, where's Adam ?, a couple of minutes later Adam appeared, Bono said that to be in a band the timing had to be perfect and Adam's timing needed some work. The next 20 minutes rushed by in a blur, my main memory was "Magnificent" it was just amazing live, the sound in the theatre was so crystal clear and this anthem was just pure class. The band genuinely seemed to be excited about playing here today and put in a faultless performance, after the end of "Breathe" every fan in the place did their best to get an encore but it wasn't to be as U2 were on such a tight schedule.

After the show I went over to U2 soundman Joe O'Herilhy and asked if he had any information about the rumoured show that evening, he said that he knew nothing of the show, keeping very tight lipped about the evenings forth-coming events. I had more luck with Radio 1's biggest U2 fan Dominic Byrne from the Chris Moyle's breakfast show, who gave me a few tips as to where the "secret" show might happen, he said "Just look up to the roofs". Later I had the amazing chance to meet Bono + The Edge, as they arrived for their interview for the Chris Evans radio show they stopped to chat to fans and autograph a few items, I was lucky enough to get an "Get On Your Boots" CD single signed which was amazing. I really could not believe that I had not only seen U2 at an intimate venue and now I had met two members of the band, with also the promise of yet another performance, I could not have asked for a more "Beautiful Day". People started gathering around the BBC building around about 5pm with the police putting barriers along the pavement, at around 6.30pm the road was closed and thousands of people gathered around to witness a very special performance by possibly the best band in the world today. As I looked around I could see people at allsorts of vantage points around the place to try and get a glimpse of the band. At about 6.45pm Chris Evans introduced the band, and the noise from the crowd around me was deafening. The band came out and gave a brilliant performance showing the millions out there watching and listening just why they are labelled as the best band in the world today.
