iLast nights Vancouver show was the sixth or seventh time I have seen U2. I was generally disappointed in the concert.
The "star" of the concert was the stage, and not the music or the musicians. The overwhelming size of the stage with its flashing lights and video screen serveed as a distraction the audience and for me in particular.
I wanted to hear/feel the music and see the band. Instead, the experience it felt to me that attending the concert was no different than watching a TV screen with 65,000 other people, many of whose behaviour was also distracting and annoying--the high screams of teenage girls was particularily distracting.
I understand that a band like U2 cannot play small venues. However, I remember the "Rattle and Hum" show at BC Place, and recall being blown away by the band's raw performance, the and their spontaneity. Last night everything was choreographed.
And did I mention that the sound quality sucked?
