It's late Saturday night (or early Sunday morning) and I just got in from the show...
U2 is a band that I had always thought I'd never get a real chance to see. I had missed them in the past, and nearly missed them again this time around. And, who knows if my geographical position will ever correspond with theirs in the future. The moment is now.
The Arcade Fire. Had they played another song, and they would have had the sell-out crowd under their spell. There exists a very genuine electricty in this band, and considering Montreal is where this band birthed its' career, it was no noubt a sensational home-coming for them... If you didn't know of them before, you certainly do now.
U2's set was unreal. Maybe since they're my favorite band still around, I have a biased opinion. And, those who said that this band had peaked during the Elevation tour, may want to reconsider. Bono's singing was great, better than I've ever heard. And, I'm thinking that Bono & Co. still have a lot of great things to bring to the world, musically and other. Which, coincidentally, is the most brilliant thing about this band: Not only is there music out-of-this world, but their dedication to helping the human race.
But, as I reflect on tonight's show, I can't help but think that there's nothing that will ever measure to what I've just experienced. From the opening sequence of City of Blinding Lights to extended version of Bad, and each and every song in between... Unreal. Now I don't need to buy the DVD (even I though I probably will anyways)
I guess a U2 show cannot be described well, textually. It has to be lived... it has to be experienced.
Goodnight.
Jason.
