My good friend Joe and I were in London on our way back to the US from a 2 month long European vacation. We were staying at a flop house in Chelesy and the guy who cleaned up around the house was a long haired rocker. He told us to go to this biker bar about 25 miles outside of London, which we did, and also go and see U-2 if we had a chance.
We found our way to Brixton Academy on November 2, 1984 on a cold and rainy night. Outside the venue we found a guy selling tickets for twice the price as the advertised price. WE bought them and entered the hall. It was a large old theatre with all the seats removed. I will never forget the guys pissing into the sink, the toilet, the garbage can...where ever they could find, as the beer flowed greely and so did the piss.
My friend Joe worked his way to the mosh pit and I stayed back against the back wall smoking dope with this dreadlocked Jamacian guy. When U-2 came on the whole place went crazy! Sunday Bloody Sunday...a hello to London...I haven't been back here for a year and it feels good to be home type of stuff. The music was incredible and I had goose bumps just being a part of it.
This was truely one of my most memorable concerts ever...not quite as involving as Stevie Wonders show in Seattle in 1973 but close.
I loved the beer at Brixten...and the bathroom! I loved U-2 and have been a fan ever since.
