I've been a fan of U2 since 1983. I'm an American from Harrisburg, PA in Barcelona for 11 months doing work for a research project for my law firm. Every day I walk pass this stadium on my way to the office. The past 10 days I made a point to have a late lunch and to do some work outside so I could hear the band rehearse. The most exciting thing about the rehearsals, other than the obvious resurgence of Unforgettable Fire and Ultra-violet, was Drowning Man. The new rendition sounds really amazing and much more mature than when the band were in their early twenties recording it for War.
My excitement level was at 1000%, waited in the inner circle for nearly three hours. The show's production was fantastic - a hug spectacle. But I know there are limitations to seeing ANY band on opening night. I know the chances for screw-ups are high. And the band screwed up. More than once. And they also didn't play Drowning Man. WTF?!?!
I have 13 more shows on my itinerary.
