My first ever U2 concert - I'd been a big fan in the Blood Red Sky years but then my music drifted into a range of different spaces. This was the day that probably changed the music I would live my life to for ever.
I just remember being absolutely bowled over. Zooropa was pretty newly out and so we listened to it in the car all the way from the north of England where we lived. Bono's entrance to the title track was immense (I understood the meaning of the word 'loud'now).
And then every song old and new so powerful on what was a gloomy, sultry Glasgow day. The emotion; passion; despair and hope in U2's music that afternoon so fitted place and intensity that venue offered them.
When we got back in the car and drove home through the small hours of the morning I wanted to listen to anything other than U2. The next morning I bought tickets to the Wembley concerts the following week. And from that day to this if friends ride in my car and U2 is not playing it becomes a once in a lifetime event. I try to and do appreciate other music but U2 has been the soundtrack to my adult life.
