The concert was awesome! I spent Monday morning making a shirt to wear. It was black and said U2Fan in silver glitter letters. It rocked. Several people asked me where I bought it. (They made me really happy. I loved saying...I made it! Woohoo.) Mary Virginia and I were able to grab dinner together and then head off to the show. Since we didn't have GAs we weren't in a huge hurry to get there. We weren't huge PJ Harvey fans. We get to the Compaq Center at 6:30 and the doors had still yet to open. It totally sucked! We were able to work our way to the front of the line and be some of the first in. We found a merchandise stand that didn't have anybody in line and we bought a tour book. We'd be back later for shirts, key chains, pins...etc...but we needed some reading material to pass the time away. After walking around and checking things out we found our seats to check out our view. Didn't totally suck but, it wasn't the best. But we made it in the doors. We were happy! ;-) MV wanted a seat so we sat in the upper tier. I wasn't about to pay 100 more dollars for seats on the lower tier. (This was before I'd been to a U2 concert though, forgive me!) We killed time by talking to the people next to us about the stage, set list, other concerts, when their baby was due...etc. (What a lucky kid! Yet to see the sky but already been to U2, Dave Matthews, Jimmy Buffett...the list goes on...) PJ Harvey started at 7:30 and we were out of our seats by 7:31. We had planned on shopping while she was on. We figured that maybe other people would be in listening to her. Dead wrong. She sucked so hard. There were more people out of there seats then in their seats. Everyone was just standing around talking in the hallway. When you walked through the crowd, all you could hear was people talking about how bad she was. Anyway....we went out and got some Official Merchandise. My shirt is really cute. (Need I even tell you that?) Since the people next to us were hanging on to our tour book, we headed back to our seats to relieve them of that duty. They were so tired of the noise that was coming from the stage that they decided to head out too. We had every intention of sitting and waiting for U2 but after about 30 seconds we made eye contact and headed out again. We stood and talked about how terrible she was. Way unworthy of sharing a stage with U2. At around 8:15 we headed back in. We only had to listen to one PJ Harvey song. (Which, needless to say, also stunk.) Honestly, the girl is losing fans on this tour, not gaining. The lights came back on and we were getting pumped...U2 was moments away. After a setup that seemed to take forever, the guys finally came on. We were on our feet the entire time. We danced, sang, laughed and had a great time. Music is amazing. It has the power to bring so many different types of people together. Anyway...U2 sang for a good hour and 15 minutes and then headed off stage. They played this video bit before they came back in. It totally slammed Charlton Heston. However, when Heston was talking about guns I was yelling and cheering for him. MV would have but she was laughing at me. ;-) After Heston they played this thing where this little girl walked into a kitchen and picked up a gun that was in this cute gift bag on the floor. I was incredibly irritated but kept my cool. U2 is very lucky. I give them grace because I look at the situation where they are coming from and I'm sympathetic. I mean, over there, there isn't a right or wrong. It is just guys with guns and they view them all as bad. All because the squabbling isn't over a black and white, yes or no issue. It's all a matter of opinion. If I were Irish, I too, would feel differently about guns. However, I'm an American and I have a different view of weapons. I'm thankful that I have the opportunity to be responsible with guns. I'm proud to live in a country where I don't have to worry about the government taking over. OK, sorry for getting off topic. (What can I say? I'm passionate about my beliefs.) U2 came back on and continued to rock the house. MV laughed really hard when Bono ran laps. It was so Bono of him. The bass on Bullet in the Blue Sky was phenomenal. Mysterious Ways rocked. I loved the acoustic Ground Beneath Her Feet. I think it's neat how the songs were so different yet, so alike. It all meshed very well. The high point for me was singing Sunday Bloody Sunday. It was just me, Bono and 50,000 of my closest friends. ;-) Just singing and rocking. I will forever remember my first live U2 experience. Though, it won't be my last. MV and I are ready to see them again. They were just so raw. So unpolished yet, perfect in every way. Being in a Rock band isn't something you can learn how to do. It's a gift.
