U2's tourstop in Houston was definately the best rock concert I've ever been to. It didn't hurt that for much of the night I was less than 10 feet away from either the Edge or Bono. Elevation was a great show opener, and leaving the lights on was a very unique way to see the biggest rock band in the world (as well as the crowd smiling, dancing and singing along). U2 followed Elevation with Beautiful Day, which was quite a sucker punch. Until the End of the World had Bono and Edge on the catwalk, playing bull and matador ala' the Mexico City Popmart Video. The highlights of the concert were as follows.
1) PJ Harvey announcing "This is my last song of the evening"
2) U2's Elevation opener
3) Stuck in a Moment, Bono and Edge trading lines at the end of the song
4) Bad.
5) Bono singing the "Zoo TV" ending to One
6) Bono singing the "Rattle and Hum" ending to Bad
Here were the lowlights of the evening
1) The tacky and out of context video bashing of Charlton Heston which advocates gun control or some hippie crap. The only redeeming thing was that a lot of people in the Texas crowd were murmering and complaining during that nonsense... "Oh Lord, here they go again". If I wanted to see that communist propaganda I'd watch lard ass (Rosie O'Donnell).
2) The jerks in the upper level who wouldn't give Bono their Irish flag. Finally they consented, but only after making Bono look like a fool. Sheesh, give the Irishman a break!
3) Walk On. My favorite song off the album, but it just didn't sound too great in Houston for whatever reason.
Not to sound like a complainer, this was the best concert I've ever been to. I can't wait to see them again in Chicago!!!
