Wow... what fun last night was. The show was great... but I hate to admit it... I was hoping for a couple of different songs or such for Bono's birthday. I made it into the Heart again and it was so worth it.
Bono didn't seem to want to enjoy his birthday much until mysterious ways came on. As he was walking down around the Heart, he saw a women with a happy birthday sign in her hand. He pulls he up on the stage and starts to dance with her. Then, he takes her back onto the main stage, all the way behind Larry and then over to the other side of the Heart. He gets halfway to the point, and then pulls another women out the crowd onto the stage. As he keeps walking, he pulls 2 more up till he gets to the tip of the Heart. At this point, all hell breaks loose (I was about 5 feet from it). Every women who wanted to be on stage and who could climb over the railings did so in about 30 seconds. It went from 4 women to 15 to 20 to 30 plus women climbing from everywhere to get onto the stage. It was a complete free for all. Then, Bono starts walking around the heart again with all the women behind him, like in a congo line. He gets all of the women up to the main part of the stage. Edge had this big smile on and was being surrouned by all these women. Larry and Adam seemed to be having fun with it as well. Bono led the women back onto the Heart again walking towards the tip. As the song finished, Bono comments "I kinda feel like Hugh Hefner!". Then, the most amazing part... all the women got off stage with no complaint and very orderly. All in all, it was very cool.
Many of the fans in the heart and on the floor had birthday hats, signs, confeity, etc. It was a great atmosphere for a show. During the final song Walk On, I turned and noticed Paul McGinnis standing inside the Heart. He was watching the band play. He was just enjoying the band and the music. It kinda was like a father watching his sons. It was a very cool moment. A great show...and an unforgetable experience! See you in Chicago 1st and 3rd nights!
