Overall a good show, but when was the last time U2 put on a bad show? Albany was the closest they've come to a bad show. Out of the 9 Elevation shows I've seen, this ranked 8. It's tough to see U2 in Jersey for 2 shows after seeing their 2 shows at the Garden. The Garden shows not only were their best shows of the tour by far, but the best out of the 18 U2 shows I've seen in my life, including 6th row at Sun Devil stadium in '92.
Anyway, back to this particular show. I've got a huge bone to pick with them. What is up with the houselights coming on a full 5 minutes after Walk On ended? This whole week they put the lights on right after that song so as not to mislead the fans. However, last night you almost thought it was guaranteed they'd come back on stage considering it's their last US show and all. Unfortunately, no luck!! Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth and you shouldn't leave a U2 show feeling anything but elated.
Another thing that's getting tiring is all of the political ranting Bono's been doing lately. I know it's a big part of what he's all about, but relax. The shows in Miami, Lexington, and Hartford were superior because it was all about the music and having a great time. Maybe I'm just a little pissed because Slick Willie was in the audience and Walk On or One was dedicated to him. I love Bono, but stop bashing Charlton Heston who only supports our constitutional rights and then embrace Bill Clinton who embarassed our nation for 8 years with his lying and cheating ways. That clip before "Bullet" of the little girl only supports what Heston is saying. Bad people shouldn't have guns. And the parents of that girl are bad people for leaving the gun on the floor. That's my credo!!
I wish U2 had ended their North American leg at MSG and not at Continental, which is a horrible arena. However, it's been an unbelievable leg and I hope to see them back in the US in the fall. Now it's on to London and Slane for probably the best experiences of my life. It'll be tough for them to beat the MSG shows, but I think they will.
As much as I've sounded negative in this review, nobody loves U2 more than me and I'll always support them, no matter how misdirected they may be politically.
