Unreal. I knew it was going to a be a good night when my GA floor tickets turned into Bomb Shelter, front-row seats with the zap of a scanner. After I recovered from my coronary, I made it through all the security checkpoints and finally made it in. Having only seen U2 from the nosebleed sections on previous tours, I could not believe my luck. There I was, front and center. Simply put, it was my dream come true.
The show itself was fantastic. No big surprises but the guys are playing like a very well-oiled machine. Edge's solo on BTBS was sharp and very crisp and deliciously blues-y. COBL is the best opener I've heard since WTSHNN. The chiming guitar licks to start the song are mezmerizing.
Some other highlights: New ending to One with a new melody which was cool. OOTS was beautifully done with no guitar and Edge on piano...although he did mess up once which got a smile from Bono. The beauty of this band is that they're not perfect, isn't it? Vertigo played again to close was absolutely perfect.
CANNOT wait for Round 2 tonight, then MSG on Saturday then 4 more shows in the fall. All I ask for is Bad tonight. Then I can die a happy man.
