well the 5th elevation show in a row for me and i must say i was not expecting much after the very disaapointing ny shows. but the politically correct attitude of the band was gone.
the first four songs are never an indication of the show. they are just energy songs and pretty much sound the same every night. "i will follow" was short and had me worried that it would fall into the trap of ny. then came sunday bloody sunday. it was great to hear the "no more's" back in the song and bono pausing to let the crowd sing USA before wipe your tears away. best one ive heard since leg one, the sogn had been dragging, but it had that extra kick. bono had more anger in him.
stuck in a moment had the fan with one on his back again. then kite. well bono talked about ground zero and stuff, a change of pace. and the lyrics at the end were altered. very nice version, better than the ny ones. then angel of harlem. for two nights in ny, edge kept leaning in and bono didnt always let him sing along, but he did last night. they even sang the whole time from"blue light on the avenue" which they havent since baltimore. much more intimate.
then please. well bono' rant is what i had expected in ny, and it didnt show. but he went off and then please was just brilliant. far better than the night before with bono singing the quiet please ending while edge got ready for what i thought would be bad, but then all i want is you. lets face it. bad sucks right now. its real short and doesnt even warrant having 40 listed after it on setlists. a far cry from the earlier shows on the first leg and the way it was in the 80's. even the short zoo tv versions were better becuse bono mixed up the covers at the end. but all i want is you was great, much fresher than bad was in ny. (listen to the charlotte bad and youll see how crappy it is live at this point). sorry bad lovers, myself included, butits dragging. and in ny iy affected streets. it made me not feel streets because bad was energy-less, but not last night.
the rest of the show was standard, but bono's speech about the new album was great to hear. other than that. a good elevation show. far better than the three in ny, but not on par with baltimore though.
