WOW!
Let's start off with, "If you don't have your tickets for an upcoming show, GET THEM NOW!!!!"
Although my seats at the back of the Cotton Bowl Stadium seemed awfully far away from the stage (on the paper map), once my friends and I got there the magnitude fo the stage set-up made us feel like we were cozying up to our television set. Mofo started out the multimedia roller coaster ride that lasted for two hours and HMTMKMKM ended the first/second encore.
Bottom line: This stage has set the tone for all major music productions for a stadium environment. This screen everyone keeps buzzing about is absolutely incredible. Something like 150 ft. tall and over twice as wide... The feeling is one of being extremely close to the action. It also seemed like every song had the stage/stadium acting and looking in a different way. From screen graphics, to stage color changes, to spotlights shooting to the heavens, it definitely helped to keep the momentum and surprise going right until the end. Even though the ticket price (I thought) was steep ($63) for BFE (figure it out) seats, the ability of the band to bring themselves to you via the popmart screen made it seem worth it.
Ummmm... disappointingly, though, Bono didn't talk that much between songs (then again, he doesn't have to) like he did on the Zoo TV tour. Comparing the two concerts, I was expecting to find nothing comparable to the explosively dynamic Zoo TV tour, and there was nothing comparable. Both were awesome in their own way. And as cliche as it sounds, (ouch!) it seems they did in some way "re-invent" themselves.
U2's Popmart is the best... full-blown... audio-visual experience... you will have...for a very,... very,... very... long time.
