Although it was a half-decent set list, the order in which it was played was out of kilter with keeping a crowd interested enough to stay awake. Breathe is a lousy opener as much as Moment of Surrender is a lousy closer. Poor, poor choice, lads - very poor. The only highlights being 'Bad' 'Unknown Caller' and 'The Unforgettable Fire'. 'Ultraviolet' was the stand-out song for me.
In addition to that, the whole atmosphere was totally ruined by moronic fans with their stupid mobile phones held permanently aloft at the expense of punching the air and jumping up and down - y'know, the kinda thing you're supposed to do at a gig, for crying out loud!!!...... and with Bono even encouraging the use of the damn things at one point it only served to make the gig that extra bit dull. Who bloody cares about all the lovely wee lights that the damn things can produce en masse?? I pay to see a band perform, not to see 80,000 mobile phones stuck up in the air. Ok, ok, I know it's a symptom of modernity that'll probably never go away, but it is completely wrecking the atmosphere. Seriously, of what use can a mobile phone, with the lousy picture quality that they produce, be to anyone at a gig? It's just plain dumb.
That was my 13th U2 gig since 1983 and this one was my final U2 gig ever. I just can't be bothered. It ain't worth it anymore.
