I was fortunate enough to get general admission tickets via ETS Tours of Toronto, Canada for the U2 shows at Croke Park in Dublin on both Friday and Saturday nights.
Both shows were amazing and I would rate them each a 10 on a scale of 1-10. I enjoyed Saturday slightly better mainly due to the following reasons:
1. No rain
2. Better position on the field (or the pitch to a Dubliner or football/soccer fan)
If you have general admission field seats for the stadium shows I would recommend to arrive shortly before the time the gates open if not sooner if you desire a good position to see the concert.
U2’s stage setup for the stadium shows utilizes an open hear or ellipse with an outer ring or barrier that separates a few thousand fans from the others on the field.
On Saturday we arrived at about 3pm shortly before the gates opened and we easily secured a spot directly in front of the stage at the rear of the extended stage ramps. Our concert experience was greatly enhanced compared to Friday night when we didn’t arrive until after 6pm and we were stuck behind the barrier. The concentration of fans is much more dense behind the barrier and seeing the stage is difficult to I had to rely upon the video screens to see most of the concert.
Anyway, I have been a big fan of U2 since the early days and have traveled to shows in England, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, all over the USA, as well as both shows in Slane in 2001 and this weekend I was amazed at the amount of U2 fans that traveled from all over the globe to see the U2 in their hometown. And I can confidently say that that Bono and the boys did not disappoint by delivering two amazing shows on Friday and Saturday.
I was able to snap some decent photos when the band members were on the extended stage ramps so enjoy!
