First U2 concert I've been to--I have just been devirginized by an atomic bomb. Kanye West as the opening act for a rock-and-roll concert was creative and a great way to bring the sound and influence of real hip-hop to this part of the country. His stage performace was as sincere and charismatic as U2's. He even danced around the elipse as Bono did later on. Gotta' love the big cassette boombox he had up there on stage like he was back in the old club days in the 80's. Would have been cool if he had put it on his shoulder and rapped around the elipse.
U2's stage performace was like a neon kaleidascope. I've heard U2's music so much for 15 years, and then to see them live with all those colors, it was like the elipse was a mood ring, and changed colors for every emotion in all their songs. I spent most of my time in a trance-the irises in my eyes blown wide open with the red and blue lights chasing around the stage/elipse, and the curtain of lights, and the lampshade lights hanging above the stage. I swear the lighting designers were astronomers, man. It was like looking up into deep space. During the show, Bono invited a girl in a bikini santa clause suit up on stage and danced with her. He invited a little kid up on stage to sing the "No more" chorus during Sunday Bloody Sunday. That ignited some strong anti-war/anti-violence emotions. We're leaving the world to the next generation, and we should teach them that "You don't have to be a monster to stop a monster," as Bono said earlier on in the show. They had two encores. Seems like the audience felt that screaming would bring them back on stage. It worked. Another highlight was when Bono started chasing The Edge around the stage during the last part of End Of The World. They ended the concert like a hymnal. Yahwey sounded even more meaningful acoustically, and 40 is like universal. Everybody knew what to do with the chorus.
