Wow! I Just Got Stuck In A Moment and there I stayed though a 2 hour set last night at the U2 show in Providence. U2 are the most amazing Band in the World - they love their fans, their causes and GOD DAMN they love the world. While Elevation lost a bit of its kick starting off the show it was quickly forgotten. This was my 15th show - first show was 1985 at LIVE AID. Hooked ever since.
I don't ever remember hearing OOC, but when Bono annouced he was going to do his first single, and launched into this unbeliveably passionate and wild song I was in love again.
There were so many memorable moments, but what is what memorable is the music. I loved when he went to the back of the stage and singleled this little girl out, put the microphone to her voice and you hear this sqeaky clean "I love you" and it blew the crowd away. That is Bono though. This little girl now has a moment we all wished we could have, but as U2 fans we were happy not for what we may have missed, but for what others gain with these personal interactions. Bono didn't pull any fans onto the stage this show, but I saw him do this earlier on at the Fleetcenter (3 shows there for me). In times like this when the US is in mourning, U2 is the healer. The setlist hasn't varied too much since the shows I saw at the Fleetcenter, but why should they. Can't mess with perfection.
The fans are the best in the world. They are what I will concentrate on. I went to Trinity's a brew pub across from sorry DDC the Providence Civic Center (much nicer ring to it don't you think). I was alone, but not for long. I met a couple great guys - one from Boston and the other Providence - HEY Jeffrey. The place was hopping and I had a bumb seat so lots of people were waiting around my table to get seated. I started to talk with a lady "Susie" who is originally from Wellesley, MA - she was in for dinner with two friends. Come to find out, she is a airline hostess on American Airlines and the two gentlemen she was with were American Airlines pilots - IRONIC isn't it. I expressed my sympathies to them for their losses and then went on to tell her about U2 and their tributes in NY and at all shows since 9-11. She was pretty blown away by this.
I then proceeded to the Civic Center to meet more wonderful U2 fans. I had a wonderful time. I met up with a couple great guys (the lawyer from the cape and his friend Hand) and partied with them the entire show.
Tonight I will be back in Providence to celebrate Halloween and also Larry Mullins 40 birthday. I can't wait! Show #16 tonight. Can't wait for the boys to come back on tour. Peace on Earth! Wildhoney
