I've just completed a 500 mile round trip excursion from where I live in Maine, down to my home town of Providence,RI to see my first Elevation show.
I was somewhat prepared to be disapointed with the show. The concert was sandwiched between four shows in NY, and a Halloween show on Larrys 40th birthday! I figured there would be a natural let down in the bands energy level. I'd also been reading reviews of the tour for months and thought, "there's no way they can live up to the expectations". I was Wrong!!!
Everything I've read is true! The band put on a flawless show! And even up in my nosebleed seats, I felt the connection, the spirit. It was truly a moving, emotional release!
Highlights included:
-"Where the Streets" The climax of the show!
-Bono climbing up into the stands behind the stage during "Bad".
-The INXS shirt during "Stuck in a Moment".
-The acoustic "Please."(Very Powerful)
-Bonos spotlight work in "Bullet the Blue Sky"
-"New York". not my fav song but the performance was incredible! and the visuals on the mesh screens made great eye-candy!
-The "One/Walk On"ending. truly moving.
An evening that began with high-fives ended with hugs.
I was very struck by how young the audience seemed to be. I'm 34 and now a veteran of 6 U2 concerts(all different tours). I thought it was great to see all the young kids. It's a testiment to U2's enduring relevance.
I'm sure there will those who disagree with my view of this show. Those of you who have been Elevated 5 or 6 times and are complaining that the set list is too similar every night. Well, that may be true, but there's alot of people who will only see the tour once and they deserve to see and hear the same songs you raved about the first or second time around.
I also understand this probably wasn't nearly the best show of the tour. But for me, being there with my two best friends in the world, watching the Best Band in the World, it was Heaven on Earth!
Thank You!
Walk On
