OK, this is the second Elevation show I've seen (other was June 6 in Boston), but this time I had GA tickets and was four rows from the tip of the heart on the floor. I'll tell you this was the most physically challenging show I've ever been to... Every time Bono or Edge came out our way, there was a crush to get to them. My wife and I were elbowed, pushed, stepped on, you name it. At one point, my wife turned to me and with a smile on her face said, "This is awesome, as long as we get out of here alive!" We were close to two potential fights!
I mention this, because it was part of the most intense concert experience that I've ever had. I knew the show. I know the songs. But to be 10 feet from Bono and Edge during Angel of Harlem and Please; to be able to hear Bono singing Please without listening to the PA system. As my wife put it, "we were close enough to see his eyes and two hoop ear rings." That was what made this show special. It was awesome, and we did make it out alive..., though sore.
Best moment in the show: Bono speaking to the young girl during Bad and, when asked her name, she blurts out "I Love You"
Song I Wished They Would Play and They Did: Out of Control (hadn't heard this one live yet!)
Song I Wished They Would Play and They Did Not: All I Want Is You (heard Bad already this tour, but who's complaining)
Song I Wish They Hadn't Dropped From the Set: They Fly (truly spectacular)
Best Performance of the Night: Please (acoustic, the words are fitting to the events of 9/11, and I was 10 feet away from where they performed it!)
Funniest Moment of the Night: Tie (1) Bono quoting a NYFD member in having Osama Bin Laden Kiss His Royal Irish Arse, and (2) The band messing up the end of One (the look on Adam's face as he looked back at Larry was priceless)
Overall Impression: Though a shorter show that the first leg, I thought the setlist and performances were tighter.
Until next tour...
