There are never enough words to describe U2. I have seen them many times on
Elevation Tour 2001. It came to a beautiful end last night for me. I returned
back to the floor for my final Elevation show. Bono and The Edge spent much
of the time at the bottom of the heart. Tonight of coarse was Larry Mullen's
40th Birthday. Bringing out a cake and champagne was an awesome touch.
Bono referred to the fact that when asked what Larry wanted for his birthday he
replied "he just wanted to do a gig..... in Rhode Island. Larry took the Microphone
and spoke about how proud he was to be with thousands of his closest friends
on his birthday. Major surprises in the set list for the show. I was thrilled
to say the least to hear them whip out "Party Girl" along with a stunner
"Slow Dancing" which they haven't played in years to my knowledge. Just as refreshing was Bono and The Edge playing "Wild Honey" for the first time on this
leg as well as "Please" which they heve recently began playing again.
Wild Honey was just so great to hear. Totally unexpected. They hadn't played
that since the New Jersey show in the first leg. As always the Elevation Tour
staples were there. The Set List included:
Elevation (great beginning to this tout with the house light on)
Beautiful Day
Until the End of the World (Bono let a fan jump on the heart's
catwalk and snap countless photos and He and the Edge closed out the powerful
ending to that song)
New Years Day
I Will Follow
Sunday Bloody Sunday (As an ongoing gesture Bono received an American flag
and cradled it in his arms)
Stuck In A Moment
Kite (always moving to hear Bono speak of the fact that "He wrote this song
for his kids, but he now thinks his father who passed away just a few months
ago wrote this for him)
Wild Honey (acoustic)
Please (acoustic)
Bad (as in previous nights in leads into 40)
Where The Steets Have No Name ( The greatest live song ever!!!! such an incredible
rush!!!!! Especially down on the floor)
Pride (With Martin Luther King speaking of the "Promise Land")
THE ENCORES
Bullet The Blue Sky (A bit toned down from the first leg in which they played
a video about gun violence and how U2 is opposed to
hand gun access)
Whats Going On ( tribute to Sept.11... Marvin Gaye Classic beautifully acoustically
rendered by Bono and The Edge..... Bono song to the croud
while the Edge strung in the distance)
New York (added meaning to an already powerful song)
One ( as with all concerts on this leg the names of all those who lost their lives
in the Sept.11 attacks were scrolled in the air of the arena and on the
curved screen behingd the band. As with the other shows Ive seen on this
leg i blew kisses to the names of those i knew of..... just so touching to
see the passengers names and then of The NYPD and FDNY who risked
there own lives..... The list of Firefighters seemed neverending........
They are the Heroes.... always in oor hearts
When Will I See You Again
Walk On
Grace (played with the house light turned back on)
For me a long journey. Six Elevation shows. Alot of miles on my car.
I met some of the greatest most beautiful people and of course U2.
The greatest, most influencial artists of our time. Thank you for your
best tour yet. I know we will see you again.
To Maria and Kourtni........ this show was for you.
thank you..
Love.peace.always
