The most amazing night of my life. No matter who i marry or how many beautiful kids i have, it will never get any better than this. The band were loving the entire show, Bono's vox was on top form, better than i have ever heard it, he hit each note in the most perfectly measured way, and let them ring out around the arena like church bells on Christmas morning. The man just never seemed to stop, and was bounding around the heart like a ten year old boy. Highlights of the show:- being in the heart, which could have held more people, but it was truely amazing just being able to stroll from one end of the heart to the other as the band moved around. Bono dedicated Kite to his dad, and later in the show made a brilliant speech about the developing world before One. During Sunday Bloody Sunday he said a few angry words about the Omagh bombing, about three years ago. He talked of "The tiny little town" and "the tiny little fucking minds" that bombed it. After In A Little While he made a few jokes about the rest of the band, who joined him at the tip of the heart. He said that in the early days, Edge used to sleep upright on the tourbus to support his massive brain, whilst Larry used to bring a sleeping bag with him so he didn't have to use the sheets in the hotel rooms. There was one very hairy moment when i thought Bono would fall of the heart ramps as he ran around them during The Fly, but he seemed to keep going anyway, which just shows you how cool a man he is (obviously not afraid of anything in this world, including falling off the heart). Finally, he pulled a girl up on stage during New Year's Day and sung 'I'm nothing' repeatedly over and over again (perfectly everytime, i might add!) at the end of Walk On. He dedicated the song to Aun Suung Su Kyi but i got the impression these last lines were a homage to his mother or father because i remember him sing something like 'You left and made me someone' during the song, and at the end of the 'Home' bit he sung 'Home/ That's where my dad is', or something like that. The band left the stage after a 'lap of honour' of the heart. Lastly, the guys who do the lighting at this show are gods. The opera curtains dropped perfectly on que during New York and the song would be nothing without the effect those long Bono-shaped shadows gave. London, you made me very proud tonight and i cannot wait for Wednesday when we will do it all again.
PS: We arrived in the queue for the heart at 12:30 and easily got in, so if you're going to the following shows at EC don't despair because the queue doesn't start to build in any serious way until about 4pm.
