I consider myself a very lucky U2 fan. As a Brazilian living in America, I was able to see U2/POPMART 6 times in the United States, all of which had it's own special touch and surprises. With my "POPHEAD" and wife Brandi, we drove five hours from my hometown "Curitiba" to complete my seventh POPMART experience, and what an experience!
This show in Sao Paulo was marked by the strong levels of energy and emotion carried by the band through the concert. The crowd was living a longtime dream of seeing U2 in their own Country. It was just unbelievable!
Bono was very inspired, so as the rest of the band including Adam "Mr. never smiles" Clayton, who actually smiled alot that day! The biggest surprise and Joy was when The Edge started playing the song "Bad" for the first time in the Popmart Tour. It felt like a gift from the band to the loyal Brazilian fans. Pride, Streets, and Still havent found... were (as usual) the big hits of the night. Before The Edge sang "Sunday Bloody Sunday" he mentioned that 26 years ago (on that very same day) the tragedy that happened in Ireland which inspired the Band to write this "Peace" song and he also dedicated the song to all the people who promotes peace in the World.
Bono thanked the Brazilian fans (in Portuguese) for waiting for so long and said that they also have beeing waiting the opportunity of playing there. During "Bullet the Blue Sky" he add the words "Brazilians, don't run!" (To the arms of America) as an encouragement to the Brazilian Youth that lives at the present time a huge lack of opportunities and jobs in a country that had been careless to the needs of College Education (The Brazilian system only helps the rich studants).
As a curiosity only, is fair to say that not even one bad incident ocurred before, during or after this show, actually this is a trademark of U2 fans, we are worldwide unique and special just like our favorite Rock and Roll Band!
Like everything in Life everything gets to an end. My vacation is over, so as my "Poptrips" in which I lived some of the best moments in my life!
Viva U2!!
