Well, the line was crap again (the FUC isn't put together), but the people were great. I left Philly 1, drove home, posted here, had a shower, confused the dog, and got back in the car.
Got back down there by 2. I had left the parking lot at 12:30ish.
Went to sleep till 5, as we didn't start numbering till then anyway.
Was #9 instead of #18.
It was to be a good night.
PJ changed up her set, we didn't get to 'fish' her :-(.
I stuck my poster over the grate. I was on the rail. In front of Adam, but over so
that I could actually *see* Larry, instead of a cymbal.
In between meeting Otto and several other 'Oh, wow - you're you? Nice to finally
meet you's' I made my sign.
"Last night - a prick got the pick.
Maybe another handtoss trick?"
Side 2 -
"If no pick, how about 11 O'Clock (Tock) Tick?"
On to the show...
New Year's Day - This is when I saw my chance - wasn't going to wait till near the
close of the set, so I did it on the first song he used one this time.
Got a smirk, got a nod when he finished the first side, got a confused look when I
held up my hand and flipped it over.
*BIG* smile. Not smirk, *smile*. The spoongirl next to me nearly died.
End of the song, Bono was fiddling round, mumuring to Edge (after having said
something to Adam during the break, fellow spoongirl looked at me again
when Adam made his move.
Came to the lip of the stage right in front of me, pointed to me so security would
know that it was for *ME*, and then stretched as far over as possible, security
making sure we didn't get another U2 off the stage, people around me going nuts,
and...
I got my pick. I didn't just get my pick - it was handed to me after having been
used on NYD, and our hands touched.
So if I'm missing stuff from later, sorry - I was trying to remember how to breath.
At this point Bono finally got his act in gear and started explaining that the next
song was sad, and written when he wasn't feeling well, so it was appropriate to
play it tonight, as we may have to help him sing 'these lovely songs' as his voice
was very rough....
Kite
New York
I Will Follow (at which point everyone started baying for Adam to throw them a
pick. *HE* caught *MY* eye and gave me a knowing glance. It was a surreal
evening)
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Stuck
In A Little While
Ground Beneath Her Feet - FAN REQUEST!! (According to Bono, at least
rhythm section what they were doing. Sheesh)
The Mini-Intros -
Edge as 'My friend'
Adam as 'The poshest'
Larry as 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', who makes use of prescription drugs. (I
dunno either...)
Desire
More mini-intro - Pointing at Larry - "He's 14", pointing at Edge - "He's 15", himself
"I'm 16", and then Adam - "He's been 66 forever."
(Have I mentioned it was a strange night?
Bullet The Blue Sky (Chapman rap - the kiddies seeing 'the summer's hottest
show' were confused - didn't know who Chapman was
One (Before One, Abby the J2K York coordinator, who was on the rail, got
us to hold up her local chapter's banner.
Bono immediately went into his 'Thanks for supporting us on issues' rap, then
reached for the banner.
It ended up draped over the amps/moniters in front of the kit.)
Walk On.
During One two girls had to be pulled out - they passed out on the rail.
Other than that, we had some real itchy lady come in with a manangement pass
and try to get my spot on the rail with her camera (after I was there, mind you, and
after PJ had played).
We called her on the fact that she was clueless when she asked if PJ had come
on yet, and when she said that she was stayog no matter what, and that if we
kicked her out she would bring 'them' with her, we (5 of us, all of whom had been
there since at least 2am) told her that if she wanted to bring 'them', 'they' had to be
McGuinness, Kaplan, or Sheehan.
We never saw her again.
Overall, the atmosphere was as good as Philly 1, but Bono's vocals were rough -
on IALW Edge did some of the 'hoo-hooo-hoo-hoo-hooooo's, and Bono was
straining often through the show....
But, I got my pick, we got Larry to smile (saluted him during Walk On, one girl
blew a kiss
got her Edge blue one (Dallas needs a better lamp on Edge's stand - they were
purple
Everyone I was with left a very happy camper.
I ended up bawling in the shower.
I don't want to have to go into the stands.
I want to get Adam to smirk at me some more.
Oh well, those in my place wilkl enjoy it.
Shouts to Chuck and Dawn and Alli and Gabriella and everybody that made the GA line in 90+ degrees fun...
