First show of the tour for me, and I've been avoiding reading the setlists in order to experience the show with an open mind and be surprised. It worked like a charm! The things that other people here are seeing as "forced" didn't feel that way at all to me because I had no clue. Remember, 90% of the people in the audience are not following every note on the internet, either, so it makes it more worthwhile.
What worked? The Ground --> Desire --> All I Want --> Streets was as good as anything I've ever seen the band do in the 16 years that I've been attending their shows. And the GA worked better than I would have thought -- we showed up about five minutes before PJ Harvey and stood no more than 10 feet from the ramps. We couldn't really tell how close we were until the roadies were checking the guitar & mics around the heart. We then knew that they would be the best view we'd ever had of the band. Bono was sick as a dog but he put out 100% all night.
Would it have been worth $140+ if that's what I paid? Probably not, but for $45 plus TicketMonster charges it was a bargain. Can't wait for the Meadowlands!
