This was my seventh U2 show and definitely one of the more mediocre. (Maybe I was just too worn out from KoL and the harshness of their sound. I like their stuff, it just came through the speakers pretty roughly. Got a little genuinely painful.) City of Blinding lights was marred by some kind of mic problem and the vocals sounded really staticy. But then, things fell into form and a great show followed. It always amazes that they are able to maintain such high energy, and the crowd definitely held up their end energy-wise. The medicority for me just was becasue every other show I've been to, Bono always creates a really strong sense of intimacy that was somehow just lacking for me this time around; he just seemed somehow less engaged. Also, the political stuff was more blatant than usual instead of remaining a little abstract, and it started feeling like a lecture hall instead of a rock show. Ruined some of the energy for me on Pride and Streets. But I'm nitpicking; a "mediocre" U2 show is still about as good as it gets!
Acoustic Yahweh, awesome. Achtung Baby encore set, rocked. All Because of You, 10 times better live than on the album. The Electric Co., transcendent. Love and Peace or Else with the catwalk drum performance, stellar. But, hands down best part of the show, Larry's drum kick at the end of 40 just before leaving the stage--best finish I've ever seen for a show!
