Hi, I just got back from the concert in Forum an hour ago, and it was just an incredible experience. The reviews from USA was true afterall. I saw them on Popmart but this was just so much better.
The warm-up band, Stereophonics played for about 45 minutes and was really great, but to me it seemed as if the crowd wasn´t really into their set.
Anyway, 30 minutes later, U2 came on and edge was in one of his usual numbered shirts (this time it was a red "7").
This week it has been extremely hot in Copenhagen, and it was almost unbearable hot in the venue, but who cares we, got to hear a absolutely stunning concert - the best I´ve ever been to.
Bono voice was just perfect as far as I could hear - no bad throat whatsoever - he hit all the high notes and to me it sounded as good as during the previous tours. The sound in the venue was surprisingly good, and I did´nt notice any mistakes by the band, apart from Bono screwing the last part of the lyrics for Staring at the sun.
Anyway, here is my impression of each song.
Elevation (Best song from the new album)
Beautiful Day (Very cool ending on this one tonight)
Until the end of the world
Mysterious ways (with the usual snippet of Sexual Healing)
Gone (Had an interesting ending. They played it the traditional way, but at the end when the song was basically finished, Bono got Edge to strecth the song and he played a VERY COOL solo, which I havent heard on any of the liverecordings so far)
Kite (Bono explaining that this is about losing somebody. He did the last verse twice, the last time solo without the band)
New York (Even though I hate it on the record, this was one of the best songs of the evening live - WoW)
I will follow (The long version with the interlude - really a crowdpleaser)
Sunday Bloody Sunday (Even though I think it is a has-been song, it really got the crowd going
In my life/stuck in a moment (Just perfect!)
In a little while (This was so perfect - Bono and the Edge singing face to face at the end of the "heart")
Desire (I DONT like this song, but at least they played the full version with the full band)
Staring at the sun (The only new addition to the European tour. It was the complete acoustic version like the one during Popmart)
Bad (I just love this song! Bono ripped up his T-shirt during this song and sang the rest of the songs until the encores barechested (!))
Where the streets have no name (simply their best live song ever!!!)
Pride (If sunday bloody sunday is a hasbeen - this is the mother of all hasbeens... But the crowd liked it and kept singing the oh oh oh part for a couple of minutes)
Bullet the blue sky (very cool version and I have listened to more than 100 live concerts with U2 and I have never heard Bono sound so pissed before. He was rapping/shouting about how many people gets killed in the US with guns and that people dont care, and then all the Mark Chapman stuff)
With or Without you (Drapings came down and produced some very beautiful imagery. I just wish he would sing the "we´ll shine like stars" snippet, but no!!!)
And this is where I got pissed. I´m 95 percent sure, that the Edge was about to start "The Fly" with the "dreamy" intro but the audience started chanting for "one", so Bono looked at the Edge and then he started One instead. Stupid audience - they dont know what they missed.
One (We got the usual intro - great life, supporting jubilee etc. Its just a brilliant song - enough said)
Walk On (simply the best song of the evening, its the ultimative closer and when Bono sings the Halleluja ending...It does not get any better than that!)
I´m also attending tomorrows show, and I really hope they play Even better than the real thing, 11 o´clock tick tock, og THE FLY - then please skip Desire.
What a show!!!
