Martin's review pretty much says it all. The show was good on the whole but Pride and Sunday Bloody Sunday were just cases of a band going through the motions.
The crowd mostly didn't seem to have a clue - being apparently unaware what Jubilee 2000 was when Bono talked about it, and applauding the Charlton Heston gun speech at its face value. Sad.
As per usual it was the same old classics that U2 seem to be tired of playing that got people going. Where U2 shone tonight was in the material from ATYCLB and Pop.
I didn't expect as good a show as we got, to be honest. U2s edge (and the Edge) is still there and Bono still commands the stage like no-one else in the business.
Points I noticed that Martin didn't mention were
1) A very Bowie/Mick Ronson-like guitar fellatio ending with Bono on his knees in front of the Edge with his tongue out to the "End of the World"
2) A reference to "Amazing Grace" in "I will Follow"
3) Bono was singing "Wonderful Copenhagen" before launching into "Hallelujah" in "Walk On"
4) Bono thanked support band the Stereo MCs. Embarassing mistake which he rectified. It was of course the Stereophonics. Bearing in mind the lack of songs from Zooropa, the confusion cannot be attributed to a case of reliving the past. (Stereo MCs warmed up for U2 on the Zooropa tour)
5) Bono faked emptying a glass of water down Edge's back during "Staring at the Sun"
6) Bono introduced the show as "the first sho in Europe. I hope we don't blow it"
