What an incredible performance! The boys were in top form last night and you could tell they were enjoying every minute of it. The stage setup and visual effects were astounding. Unlike anything I have ever seen. They took the best of what was created for the Elevation tour and improved it to make one amazing stage.
There was a buzz of energy in the air as fans awaited their grand entrance. And grand it was. With The Edge playing the opening notes to "City of Blinding Lights" in complete darkness. It seemed as though the sky ripped open as bright lights suddenly came on and confetti rained down. That song will always remind me of this experience.
I was one of few lucky fans who got to experience what it's like to be on the floor inside the Ellipse. I can't describe the feeling I had being able to watch Bono, The Edge, Adam and Larry perform right in front of me. Being able to see the expressions on their face, the sheer enjoyment they had as they were performing, and the connection they had with the fans is something I will never forget.
There were many highlights during the evening such as their absolutely stunning performance of “Where The Street Have No Name” and the sea of blue cell phone lights during “One”. Bono’s voice soared through every song with so much passion and energy. The Edge smiling as the crowd cheered on his amazing solos. You could see the grin on Adam’s face as walked around the stage holding his bass, and the connection he had with Bono and The Edge. And behind all of this was Larry, the driving force behind the band, the man who started it all, pounding on his drum skins like you’ve never heard before.
We can only hope that we see a U2//Vertigo Tour 2005 Live in Vancouver DVD in the near future as both shows were professionally recorded. I was at both shows, and judging by their performances it would be once excellent DVD.
