April 29th, 2005 - my first ever U2 experience. I was a "U2 virgin" in the words of the DJ at the Pre Concert Party..completely unaware of how my life would be changed forever. I must admit, I thought my pal was a little wierd for telling me that his first U2 show had been a religious experience. It was just that, and more. So very much more...The songs were strong, soulful, and the highlights for me were Bullet and All Because of You. Amazing to hear them with the backup energy of 18,000. I also liked Yahweh until the girl tried to hump Bono's leg. Boy did she ever "not get it", not surprising though since she did the same thing to the "Bono" at the pre-concert party while he was singing. I guess she's not very picky.
The boys were on fire that night, and were there to deliver. No, they weren't particularly chatty with the crowd, they didn't roam around the outskirts of the bomb shelter a lot. They shot their songs straight to our souls.
Larry, the fiery heartbeat of the band, the adrenalizer, the most beautiful being, was spectacular. The very best part of the concert... also the saddest... when we kept singing and Larry, trooper that he is, kept on going. It wans't over until he said so. And I'm sure he was exhausted, I think this tour has some of his most challenging pieces in it. No time to breathe the Larry, and no time for me to catch my breath. There are no words that do him justice - beautiful - rare (more like one of a kind) - masterful - delicious - (oops - that was my outside voice!)
The Edge, the master of all guitar players and Adam, dear sweet handsome Adam - their instruments do indeed hold mysterious power over us womenfolk!
And Bono - the unforgettable voice, the strong grace...the hypnotic smoothness of this voice. Perfection.
April 29th, 2005. It was indeed a beautiful day.
