First of all I want to begin my review with a huge "Thank You" to a few people who made this U2 show (my 5th) a very good one. To Carlos:
I hope that the rest of your trip to NYC is a great one and have a safe trip home. Being at the right place at the right time and your willingness to allow U2 hospitality take hold made my concert experience that much better.
Seeing your face watching U2 live for the first time was worth my whole trip. Carlos, I hope you take some time out to read this review as I'd like to know you made it home safe. You helped make my fast and furious trip more fun.
To Amy and Bill: Your enthusiasm and totally fun nature made the show great. There is nothing like seeing a U2 show with someone who is seeing them for the first time. Bill and Carlos. Amy; is was her 2nd time. Thank all three of you for making my U2 show a great one.
On to the Show:
I read every review of this show before posting mine. Maybe it's just me folks, but I just do not get the criticism of the show. I just don't!
From the opening note of "Space Oddesey" to watching the guys walk off stage I was just soaked in. I'm a huge fan and have been since 'Boy' and it has always been simply about the music. U2's music has always been my all time favorite no matter what album. Of course there are always a few songs that I just don't care for, but these guys just have always done it for me.
The Claw was a true spectacle and the 360 design was ok, but again, it's always been about the songs and my connection to the band and to myself through their songs.
I think the NLOTH songs translate well live. Most fans don't like 'Breathe' as the opener. I still to this day think "Stand Up Comedy" or "Fez" would work very very well as openers.
But, honestly I could care less what they open with. I love the songs no matter the order they're played in. I felt the highlight off the new album were "No Line...., the 'Crazy' remix was absolutely awesome live.
The house was totally full and whether the crowd was really into it or not I really don't know because whether there is 100K or 6 people in the stadium, how can one not have fun and enjoy the music if a fan is willing to pay money to go see them? I never sat down and danced the whole night. These guys put their heart and soul into their music so why should I not do the same when seeing them play it?
Of many reasons I love this band one is their longevity. To do what they do for this long and still have that fire is nothing short of amazing. They have earned every praise and learn to roll with every sour word that rears ugly heads.
U2 will always have a fan in me and no matter how grand their stage is, what order their songs are in, no matter what I always will enjoy their shows and refuse to let a few criticisms get in the way of loving everything this band does.
For those who do nothing but spout discord with most of the shows content need to take a step back and put yourself in your place of work and make sure that your boss loves everything you do at work. Same pricipal.
We are basically U2's boss and if we didn't approve of their performance (for the last 30+ years) they wouldn't have a job.
It all comes down to the music. The connection each fan has to U2's songs.
Bono always thanks th fans for giving him a great life. I want to return that 'Thank You' to U2 for giving me a great life. Without their music in it I'm not so sure I'd be the same person I am today!
