I was there both nights, and this was the weaker of the two nights IMHO. How does a band that has been doing this for 30 years, and plays basically the same set each night of the concert, not have the routine down a little better after having been on tour for a couple of months? This show was sloppy at times. When U2 is on, they are incredible. When they're off, it's disappointing to say the least. When they're off and they charged $100 per ticket -- that shouldn't happen. I think I'll save the money when they tour in the spring.
I realize that a live show always has the possibility of some "bumps," but the issues with the sound and the lighting and the stage are things that should have been worked out long ago.
As for the stage itself, I couldn't help but ask, "doesn't it DO something?" Sure, it's big, and it lights up -- but what's the big deal. The part where the band plays doesn't completely rotate & they hardly play to the back of the stadium, so why call it a 360 tour? The video screen looked great, but I didn't pay to watch a two-hour video of the band -- I'll wait for the movie(s) of the tour to do that. I guess I just expected a lot more from this stage design.
The setlist was strange. There were some good songs. Some bad. But it just didn't gel. There were awkward pauses between songs. Just when you thought the energy level was about to go up a little more, the band killed it with a poor song choice. It was frustrating.
Overall, far from their best concert. And at $100+ a ticket, enough to make me pass next time around.
Breathe -- not a bad song, but a terrible opener.
Magnificent -- great song. should have opened with this if they wanted to open with a new song.
GOYB -- throwaway pop that should have been thrown away rather than released on the album.
ISHFWILF -- great song. sounded good too.
She's the One/Desire -- sounded great. would have been cool to see bruce
YBR -- cool song to listen to at home. not so great live. really not great when you're watching a pre-recorded video of an astronaut speaking some of the lyrics. this sort of thing might have cut it in the zoo tv days (think lou reed), but in this day and age, unless someone is singing along live via remote, no one should be singing the song except the band you're paying $100 to watch
BD/Don't stop -- great song. cool to hear the MJ thing. awkward transition to next song
NLOTH -- another really good song. could have opened with this rather than breathe
NYD -- have heard this song so many times in concert. something was way off on this, so this was far from the best version. but can't they find some other songs off of war to play? refugee? seconds? two hearts? enough NYD for now.
Stuck -- great version
Unforgettable Fire -- great to hear this song live again.
COBL -- great song. sounded great. lights into the sky were pretty cool.
Vertigo -- sounding good. things are picking up...
Go crazy -- really? as if this song isn't bad enough to begin with. what was this? if i wanted to see someone sing u2 songs off key and in the wrong time signature, i'd look in the mirror. this "remix" was just awful.
SBS -- another song that i have heard probably too many times, but at least this time around they gave it a "fresh" look with the whole iran thing. still, can't we get some other songs off of war? see above note on NYD.
MLK -- cool to hear, even though bono didn't really hit many notes
Walk On -- great song. could they get the people off the stage a little faster? no one seemed to know this was the end of the first set.
One - Amazing Grace -- one of the best versions i've heard. video intro with tutu was cool, too...too.
Streets -- can't really get tired of this song.
ultraviolet -- sounded great.
moment -- sounded ok, but by this point i was headed for the door...
