I can't even review this concert objectively, I am so pissed. Left Boston a few minutes after 6:00 for what is ordinarily a 35 minute drive to Gillette stadium. Thought we'd at least make all or part of Snow Patrol. Hit traffic on immediately on 93 that just got worse the closer we got. Came to complete standstill on Route 1 near the stadium. It took almost THREE AND A HALF HOURS to get there, of which 90 minutes was spent traversing the last four miles. WTF?? Can't Gillette deal with getting cars into parking lots? It's not like they haven't had practice! Carloads of people around us were totally irate. Then another 20-25 MINUTES parking (40 bucks! - no discount) and running from the gravel siberia of the parking lot to our seats. Missed eight songs - 1/3 of show.
Needless to say, I was only focusing on the lowlights from then on. Of course we were behind the stage, as was about 1/3 of the crowd in the stands. U2 360 - more like U2 180. You're staring at their backs for 90%+ of the show. I can't remember Bono strolling on the back walkway once; once in a blue moon he would turn around for about 5 seconds. Bad songs: the Go Crazy house beat reshuffle is truly awful(with some ok visuals though). Unforgettable Fire just doesn't work sonically in a stadium - needs an arena echo to get any nuance (again decent visuals). Walk On, with all the masks, an annoying sophomoric stunt. In fact most of the video political preaching was overlong and patronizing, with the exception of the Bloody Sunday Iran stuff.
We ran out in the middle of the encore to make sure we missed the exit traffic pileup. To top it off, all the beer stands were shut down at 9:15.
Gillette - FAIL!
