This last second gig was noticeable for three things: Van Diemens Land and the return of New Year's Day and Sunday Bloody Sunday to the U2 live show. First two legs of Zoo tour left War aside, leaving long time fans wondering whether the politically charged songs would fit into the Zoo experience.
The small stadium (think mini-JFK or Rose Bowl) was packed and it was still dusk when U2 took the stage. Immediately they thundered into Sunday Bloody Sunday...making it clear that this was a rehearsal by jumping right into things. Ecstatic at hearing one of the original tunes that made me love the bad I hoped to hear my all-time favorite, New Year's Day. Mere seconds after Sunday Bloody Sunday ended Adam's bassline kicked in and the night was made, the trip from NYC well worth it.
