What an awesome show! It's been long enough since they came to my town (Buffalo - 1987, I was 8), I'm spent after that one... The a capella "In My Life" was worth admission alone, as was "She's A Mystery To Me."
Other standouts, at least for me personally, were "Bad" (his voice was ON), "The Fly," "SBS," "Kite," and "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)." I heard copmlaints of no "Discotheque," but I've never liked the way that song is portrayed live, so no loss there for me. I only missed "AIWIY," which floored me in Toronto, and "Bad" made up for it 12 times over anyway...
My friend's been telling me these rumors of Adam wanting to leave, which I thought was ridiculous, but he did act a little funny in that he headed back to the main stage alone during Desire (while playing) while Bono, Larry & Edge were still out playing the song at the tip of the heart. I still can't even picture Adam leaving as any sort of truth...
My only complaints are that the sound mix for "Gone" blew, as it did in Toronto 5/25 (which was also a great show - I do dig that they're lit in the colors from the "Pop" cover, bad sound or no), and PJ Harvey's sound was terrible altogether. I love her stuff and wish that she was reprsented better, it's certainly not like she isn't giving enough emotion or playing well - but you can't even pretend that she doesn't have concerned parties in the U2 camp (Paul McG?!). Also, I don't like the visuals for "New York," and I think Bono looks silly playing guitar on "I Will Follow," but at least he's REALLY into it :) (and I liked the name-dropping of Boy songs in the bridge). Overall, tho, Bono's voice was flawless and the band is TIGHT...
After clearing my head, I can say that this is easily the best concert I've seen in my life (Tea Party in Buffalo and Popmart in Toronto reasonably close seconds).
Regards,
Corey P.
